Myr

The Ancient Green

Myr is a sovereign forest moon that supplies medicines and biological knowledge while the Weir limits roads, ports, logging, and nearly every means of supplying more.

Overview

The Record

Myr is a cool forest moon of misted valleys, deep lakes, and mountain watersheds under continuous living cover. Seventy million people occupy natural clearings, lakeshores, and carefully managed forest regions, leaving remarkably little surface lighting visible from orbit. Some stands have grown for thousands of years and support life found nowhere else.

The moon exports botanical compounds, medicines, fibers, cultivated woods, and biological knowledge, especially to Ilyra’s medical institutions. It does not treat those exports as a reason to maximize extraction. Ports, roads, clearings, and harvests remain limited because the forest regulates water, climate, and the conditions that make the trade possible.

Authority rests with the watershed councils called the Weir, seated at Lethwyn under a Harbormaster. A council rarely refuses a proposal outright. It grants the request and assigns a date according to the health of what would be disturbed, then moves that date when the forest supplies another reason. On Myr, a lawful postponement can preserve a stand more effectively than a ban.

Gloam practice keeps paths, memory, and vulnerable places concealed within living systems. Summoners reveal temporary routes through country that resists permanent mapping, while Dawn practitioners work in cultivation, medicine, and ecological restoration. Practice remains subordinate to stewardship: revealing a path does not authorize a road.

Myr is sovereign and protects Elowen by covenant without administering it. Its limitation is the same discipline that gives it value. The Weir can keep forests intact and supply scarce knowledge, but it cannot expand output quickly without consuming the systems from which that authority comes.

Myr is a sovereign Major Moon governed through watershed councils known collectively as the Weir, seated at Lethwyn under a Harbormaster. The councils decide where roads, ports, cultivation, and cutting may proceed. They commonly grant a request and schedule it for a date determined by the health of what it would disturb, turning delay into an enforceable form of protection.

Elowen is protected by covenant, not governed as a possession. Myr supplies expertise, diplomatic protection, and limited defense while Elowen’s custodians retain local authority and restrict settlement. Ilyra is Myr’s closest working partner, relying on Myrran medicines, biological knowledge, and cultivated materials.

Myr can authorize measured use and deny immediate access, but its influence depends on other worlds continuing to accept slower supply in exchange for living systems kept intact. Its seal is sovereign; its protected forests are not open inventory.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter7,800 km
  • Mass0.28 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.75 g

Myr has a cool, moisture-rich, breathable atmosphere at pressure slightly above the inhabited-world norm. Forests, lakes, wetlands, and mountain watersheds sustain mist, low cloud, and frequent gentle rain. Dense vegetation and standing water moderate the long light cycle, while seasonal storms and flooding still close routes. The forest regulates the climate as well as the economy, so large-scale clearance is treated as environmental damage rather than ordinary development.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order150
  • Orbital Radius2,150,000 km
  • Orbital Period11.76 days
  • Rotation282.23 hours
  • Inclination0.24 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.006

Myr is tidally locked to Oranth, rotating once during each 11.76-standard-day orbit. Because Oranth travels around Vya and Veo, sunrise to sunrise takes about 12.1 standard days, with roughly six days of light and six of darkness. Canopy, water, and wet air retain heat through the dark phase. Foresters schedule work around long transitions and regular Oranthian eclipses, which also cue local flowering, feeding, and migration.

Culture

The Twofold

Gloam practice among Myr’s foresters, naturalists, and protected communities concerns concealed paths, patient observation, memory, and knowledge held within living systems. Summoners open temporary routes without requiring permanent roads; other practitioners keep vulnerable clearings absent from common maps. Dawn governs cultivation, medicine, and restoration. Neither aspect excuses cutting or entry that the Weir has not authorized.

Travel

Travel Notes

Myr strictly limits surface ports. Most travelers transfer through orbital stations and descend by designated corridors to established settlements, then move by lake, river, elevated walkway, or maintained forest route. Leaving those routes is dangerous and often unlawful; mist, flooding, canopy, and biological hazards make a guide more useful than another instrument. Traffic with Ilyra is frequent, while bulk extraction remains restricted. Kharad’s longstanding timber concession still does not constitute permission to cut.
