Overview
The Record
Saphra makes the crystals through which much of the Embrace measures and navigates. Local guilds extract, grade, cut, and document high-value optical stone for lenses and instruments whose buyers depend as much on the assay as on the material.
Its 260,000 inhabitants live in sealed mines, cutting halls, and residences on an airless, low-gravity moon. Electrostatic dust threatens machinery and polished surfaces, while waste faces can throw severe glare across an approach. Most extraction follows the darker terminator, where thermal change is slower.
Crystal guilds control the workings and cutting houses. Caeloran navigation houses protect freight convoys and dominate export contracts, giving Saphra access to markets while limiting its bargaining reach beyond the moon. Guild assay marks identify the product; Caelor’s name governs external compacts, and Saphra has no territorial crest.
Descriers read stone before it is cut, and an incorrect reading can waste a season of work. Guild documentation records not only what a finished lens reveals but where its limits lie. That discipline sustains Saphran trust, but it cannot make every stone suitable or free the guilds from the convoy houses that carry their work outward.

- Caelor
Saphra is a commercial protectorate of Caelor. Local crystal guilds govern extraction, cutting, assay, and access to the works. Caeloran navigation houses protect convoys, dominate export contracts, and represent the trade in wider compacts without owning the mines. Guild assay marks identify Saphran products; Caelor’s name carries external authority, and Saphra has no territorial crest.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter390 km
- Mass0.0000076 Earth masses
- Gravity0.01 g
Saphra is airless. Its mines, cutting halls, and residences are sealed, and exterior crews require full pressure protection. Electrostatic dust threatens equipment and polished work, while reflective waste faces can produce severe glare for surface crews and approaching vessels.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Oranth
- Orbital Order238
- Orbital Radius3,180,000 km
- Orbital Period21.164 days
- Rotation507.94 hours
- Inclination0.34 degrees
- Eccentricity0.008
Saphra rotates once during each 21.164-standard-day orbit and is tidally locked to Oranth, which remains fixed above the inhabited face. The long stellar light cycle produces large surface temperature changes. Optical extraction concentrates near the darker terminator, where slower thermal change reduces stress on exposed stone and equipment.
Culture
The Twofold
Descriers read a crystal before the guild commits a season of cutting to it. Their findings guide selection and orientation but do not replace physical assay, and an incorrect reading is recorded with the same care as a successful one. Saphran instruments are trusted because the guilds document both forms of evidence and the limits of the finished lens.
Travel
Travel Notes
Most arrivals use Caeloran-protected freight convoys and the shaded docking axis assigned by local control. Follow current glare and dust advisories; polished waste faces can overwhelm an unsafe approach. Crystal cargo must carry a recognized guild assay, and unlicensed material is seized.
