The Stillroot Archive

Institution

The Stillroot Archive keeps Myr’s biological record inside the ancient protected watershed whose living systems give that record meaning.

Overview

The Record

The Stillroot Archive keeps its record where the record is alive. Laboratories, reading rooms, sample vaults, and observation platforms occupy rock shelves within one of Myr’s oldest protected watersheds. Raised paths turn around roots, bridge streams, and avoid monitored ground beneath forest systems that have persisted for thousands of years. Seeds, tissue, medical findings, and written observations are preserved here, but none is treated as a substitute for the living stand from which it came.

Researchers monitor forest health, study medicines and living materials, train keepers, and maintain records long enough to show changes no single career could observe. Myrran councils use that evidence when scheduling cultivation, disease response, or restoration elsewhere. Ilyran medical institutions receive compounds and findings developed at Stillroot, while the routes to vulnerable species and protected stands remain inside the watershed.

That division is deliberate. The Archive’s chartered keepers and neighboring communities make findings available through Myr’s public institutions without making the source ground public. No road reaches the complex, visitors move with guides, and every sample crosses inspection in both directions. Stillroot exports knowledge. It does not convert discovery into permission.

Identity and Function

Function

Stillroot monitors old-growth health, maintains ecological records, studies medicines and living materials, preserves seeds and tissue, trains forest keepers, and restricts access to vulnerable stands.

Identity and Function

Governance

A chartered body of watershed keepers, researchers, and nearby forest communities governs the Archive. Findings enter Myr’s public institutions, but the body withholds exact routes, protected locations, and vulnerable species data. Publication of a result does not create access to its source.

Environment and Travel

Environment

Low laboratories, reading rooms, sample vaults, and observation platforms occupy rock shelves beneath immense temperate old growth. Raised walkways bend around roots and streams; mist, foliage, and the scale of the forest conceal much of the complex without enclosing it.

Travel Notes

No public road reaches Stillroot. Authorized visitors approach by water and elevated forest routes, then continue with Archive guides. Clothing, equipment, and samples are inspected on entry and departure, and permission to visit the institution does not permit movement beyond marked platforms.

Culture

The Twofold

Sextons maintain ecological records intended to outlast their current readers, while Occulters keep routes to vulnerable stands out of every document leaving the watershed. Menders and Quickeners contribute to healing and cultivation research, and Reclaimers work on damaged stands. A Descrier may reveal what is hidden, but discovery confers no right to approach it.
