Overview
The Record
Talassar trains the crews the Embrace hires when weather has made an ordinary voyage impossible. Fortified islands, coastal cities, and ocean platforms occupy a storm-wracked moon where deep seas, powerful currents, and shifting fronts determine the shape of settlement.
No court speaks for the whole world. Island and coastal realms keep their own harbors, laws, fleets, and rivalries, cooperating through trade agreements, dynastic ties, piracy patrols, or a shared storm and separating when the immediate need ends. Their common strength is professional rather than constitutional: captains, shipwrights, weather-readers, and boarding crews trained in water severe enough to punish every shortcut.
The courts aligned outward one at a time. Each contracted separately with Caelor for wider lanes, charts, and protection until Talassar became an allied confederation in Caelor’s sphere without ever forming an internal confederation of its own. Caeloran authority reaches the external relationship; it does not let one Talassaran court command another.
Both aspects of the Twofold belong aboard the same voyage. Summoners reveal routes when storms hide a coast or currents invalidate a chart. Dawn governs rescue, rebuilding, and safe return; Gloam governs the long watch, concealed passages, and endurance through uncertainty. Crews use whichever practice the sea requires without treating balance as abstract doctrine.
Talassar’s skill travels farther than its politics. Its people crew ships throughout the Embrace and Far Reach, while storms routinely close its own harbors and fragmented authority prevents the moon from directing that labor as one power. It can train a captain for the hardest route in the system; it cannot promise when that captain’s home port will reopen.

- Caelor
Talassar is an allied confederation in Caelor’s sphere, but its own courts are not confederated with one another. Island and coastal realms retain their harbors, laws, fleets, and internal sovereignty. No single court can bind the moon.
Each court contracted separately with Caelor for wider lanes, charts, protection, and an external counterparty able to answer for a whole sea. The accumulated agreements give Talassar an outward alignment without granting Caelor authority to let one Talassaran realm command another.
Avarra remains Talassar’s maritime client league: its city-states govern themselves while Talassar supplies charts, warning, defense, and broader access in return for navigators and fleet service. Talassar’s collective mark represents the outward alignment, not a central government over its courts.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter8,300 km
- Mass0.3 Earth masses
- Gravity0.71 g
Talassar has a dense, humid, breathable atmosphere over deep global seas, volcanic islands, shallow shelves, and scattered highlands. Warm and cold currents drive storm belts, heavy rain, and waves capable of redrawing a coast. Salt, moisture, flooding, and wind are constant structural hazards, so harbors and ordinary housing are engineered against water before anything else.

- Orbital Radius3,350,000 km
- Orbital Period22.872 days
- Rotation548.93 hours
- Inclination0.38 degrees
- Eccentricity0.012
Talassar rotates once during each 22.872-standard-day orbit and is tidally locked to Oranth. Its sunrise-to-sunrise cycle lasts about 24.2 standard days, divided between roughly twelve days of light and twelve of darkness. Deep oceans moderate temperature while the moving light boundary drives sustained winds, changing currents, and predictable storm formation. Harbors publish eclipse and weather tables for fishing, repair, and departure schedules.
Culture
The Twofold
Talassaran crews use both aspects within a single voyage. Summoners reveal routes when storms obscure coasts, reefs shift, or currents invalidate a chart. Dawn governs rescue, rebuilding, preparation, and safe return; Gloam governs long watches, fog passages, concealment, and endurance through uncertainty. Practice is judged by whether the vessel comes home, not by doctrinal allegiance.
Travel
Travel Notes
Route through a weather-monitoring station before descent and accept the assigned coastal port; descent is refused when the receiving harbor cannot keep an approach open. Talassar adopted Descent Law early because its courts already trusted harbor-pilot custom: the receiving court’s descent pilot boards in orbit, takes the helm before its helm line, and holds it to landing while the ship’s crew keeps off the controls below it. That pilot’s charge ends at landing. Inter-island travel usually requires a separate local pilot, and a berth in one court’s harbor is not permission to enter another’s. Storm closures can hold ships for days, so schedules are intentions rather than guarantees. Outer escorts are crewed against boarding rather than ranged attack under the Binding. Confirm harbor law, quarantine, and receiving court before departure.
