Overview
The Record
Lyr builds small ships. Its low-gravity yards specialize in couriers, cutters, ferries, and other civilian craft whose value lies in being dependable, repairable, and available in number rather than imposing in scale. Pressurized halls surround the principal docks, with rotating residential drums and short shirtsleeve tubes connecting work that must otherwise be done in vacuum.
The shipwrights govern the yards, set internal labor codes, and answer for every certificate issued in Lyr’s name. A hull does not launch until a qualified yard surveyor has walked it end to end and called it sound. That certificate carries value in resale because it attaches the yard’s reputation to the ship long after delivery.
Velyr holds the external charter, guarantees contracts, and controls licenses for military conversion. Lyr therefore supplies civilian traffic across the Embrace without becoming an independent naval power. Its limitation is written into the same arrangement that makes its contracts portable: the yards can build and certify small craft, but they cannot lawfully turn them to military purpose without Velyrian consent.
The Twofold enters after the surveyors have done their work. Abiders are kept by the yards for the patient preservation of ships and for obligations that survive delivery; no practitioner replaces the technical signatory responsible for first launch.

- Velyr
Lyr is a Velyrian-chartered shipbuilding dependency. Its shipwrights govern the yards and internal labor codes; Velyr guarantees external contracts, controls military-conversion licenses, and represents the settlement beyond its docks. The Shipwrights’ Guild emblem identifies the yards as an institution, not a sovereign realm.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter540 km
- Mass0.0000182 Earth masses
- Gravity0.01 g
Lyr is airless. Its 740,000 inhabitants live and work in pressurized yard halls, rotating residential drums, and short shirtsleeve transfer tubes linking the principal docks. Most construction continues in vacuum, so pressure boundaries, low gravity, and traffic around unfinished hulls define daily safety practice.
Orbit and Time

- Orbital Order112
- Orbital Radius1,750,000 km
- Orbital Period8.64 days
- Rotation207.36 hours
- Inclination0.2 degrees
- Eccentricity0.004
Lyr orbits Oranth once every 8.64 standard days and is tidally stabilized, giving it a 207.36-standard-hour rotation. Oranth remains fixed above the main yards while starlight moves through the long local cycle. Yard schedules ignore that light cycle and follow standardized Velyrian shifts; residential drums rotate for habitation independently of the moon’s motion.
Culture
The Twofold
No practitioner signs off a hull at Lyr. The yards’ qualified surveyors do that and answer for the result. Abiders take the Gloam work that follows: preserving the ship, its record, and the yard’s obligation after launch. Twofold practice supports technical accountability here; it does not replace it.
Travel
Travel Notes
Regular Velyrian freight and passenger lanes serve Lyr’s main dock. Visitors may use marked pressurized and low-gravity corridors, but access to active yards requires sponsorship and a work clearance. Unescorted movement near vacuum works, rotating habitats, or unfinished hulls is prohibited.
