Overview
The Record
Aster Vale preserves living systems rather than isolated specimens. Within its hollowed interior are complete forests, watersheds, grasslands, endangered species, and the seed and breeding stock needed to restore habitats damaged elsewhere in the system.
Its outer surface is airless and largely undeveloped. Inside, immense rotating chambers hold humid, breathable valleys beneath artificial daylight bands, with forests, lakes, and cliffs curving upward along the habitat walls. Pressure gates separate the major biomes, preventing fire, disease, or structural failure in one valley from spreading into the others.
Aster Vale is an Aurelian ecological reserve governed internally by the Interior Ecology Council. Aurel finances its structural maintenance, represents it in foreign courts, and controls the release of restoration stock beyond the habitat. Permanent residents hold Aurelian citizenship, though daily life within the reserve is governed by the Council’s conservation laws.
The reserve exists to return damaged environments to life. Its ecologists study not only how individual species survive, but how entire living systems recover when soil, water, climate, and animal populations are restored together. Every trial is documented, and its findings are made available to worlds undertaking approved restoration efforts. Living stock itself is guarded far more carefully.
All traffic enters through two axial ports, where vessels undergo structural inspection and strict biological quarantine. Once admitted, visitors and cargo move easily through the inhabited corridors connecting the interior valleys. Independent landing upon the exterior is forbidden, both to protect the habitat’s systems and to prevent unmonitored material from entering the reserve.

Aster Vale operates under charter from Aurel, while its Interior Ecology Council governs daily life and the management of its protected biomes. Aurel funds major structural works, represents the reserve beyond its borders, and retains final authority over the release of seeds, breeding populations, and other restoration stock to outside worlds.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter480 km
- Mass0.0000087 Earth masses
- Gravity0.01 g
Aster Vale’s exterior is airless. Its principal interior valleys maintain a warm, humid, breathable atmosphere at roughly three-quarters the pressure common to inhabited worlds. Each biome is isolated by pressure gates so that contamination, fire, or atmospheric loss can be contained without endangering the wider reserve.

Aster Vale’s outer shell is tidally stabilized, but natural daylight does not reach its interior valleys. Vast illumination bands reproduce daily light cycles, while temperature, rainfall, and seasonal change are programmed separately for each protected biome.
Culture
The Twofold
Aster Vale celebrates its Reclaimers, whose work restores damaged habitats and whose successes are published throughout the system. Far less visible are the Abiders entrusted with the seed vaults, climate machinery, and maintenance galleries beneath the valleys. The Reclaimers return life to ruined places; the Abiders ensure that the life already preserved within Aster Vale does not fail. Their work appears rarely in public records, though the reserve could not survive a season without it.
Travel
Travel Notes
All vessels enter through one of Aster Vale’s two axial ports, where they undergo structural inspection and strict biological quarantine. Once cleared, passengers and cargo can move freely through the transit corridors connecting the interior valleys. Independent landing on the outer shell is forbidden, as it bypasses quarantine and may threaten the reserve’s sealed systems.
