Overview
The Record
The Nameless Moon preserves evidence of an erasure by refusing to replace what was taken. Ancient charts acknowledge the world through gaps, substitutions, and later annotations, while surviving districts show inscriptions removed with enough consistency to make accident impossible.
Modern settlements occupy sealed valleys and restored galleries within a thin atmosphere that cannot be trusted outside managed districts. Custodial assemblies license excavation, movement of recovered material, and entry into unrestored sections. Residents use the Nameless Moon as a deliberate public name: adopting another would make the absence easier to forget.
Velyr holds the moon under a palace charter issued from the High Seat about four centuries ago. That instrument gives the custodial assemblies their present authority and is the only governing document anyone can produce for the world. Scholars from across the Embrace may investigate, but they apply through Vhalessa and work under terms set by the same power that represents the moon externally.
No surviving account establishes when the Erasure occurred, who ordered it, or what it was meant to destroy. The archives most likely to answer belong to Velyr, which calls their silence unfortunate and has never faced a forum able to compel a fuller answer. The charter protects the moon and enables research; it also ensures that inquiry never escapes the custody of the present holder.

The Nameless Moon is a chartered dependency of Velyr under an instrument issued from the High Seat. Local custodial assemblies govern inhabited districts, license excavation and access, and hold that authority from the charter rather than from a demonstrated older right. Velyr represents the moon externally, and scholarly missions apply through Vhalessa.
The moon maintains no territorial crest and has refused every proposal to adopt one, including Velyr’s. Public institutions use functional marks that do not claim to replace the erased identity. The charter records that refusal as its single concession.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter1,060 km
- Mass0.000323668 Earth masses
- Gravity0.05 g
The Nameless Moon has a thin nitrogen atmosphere that is not reliably breathable. Settlements occupy pressure-supported valleys and underground galleries, with sealed routes between districts. Outside managed zones, travelers require independent breathing support and protection from pressure loss.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Oranth
- Orbital Order382
- Orbital Radius5,440,000 km
- Orbital Period47.33 days
- Rotation1,135.92 hours
- Inclination0.31 degrees
- Eccentricity0.006
The Nameless Moon rotates once during each 47.33-standard-day orbit and is tidally locked to Oranth, which remains fixed above one hemisphere. Settlements use an artificial twenty-four-hour civic schedule because the long exterior light cycle is impractical for work and sleep. Restored districts regulate lighting independently of the surface.
Culture
The Twofold
Gloam practice governs protected memory, suppressed names, and the honest marking of gaps that evidence cannot fill. Custodians use it to preserve removed inscriptions and disputed records without claiming to know what they once said. The affinity does not show that the Twofold caused or enabled the Erasure.
Travel
Travel Notes
Name a receiving settlement or scholarly mission before arrival and expect inspection by local custodians. Ordinary travel is permitted within restored districts. Excavation, removal or alteration of inscriptions, and entry into unrestored galleries require explicit authorization issued under Velyr’s charter; a Velyrian travel permit alone does not grant research access.
