The Shipwrights’ Guild

Lyr

Lyr’s shipwright guild, governing its civilian yards, labor codes, hull surveys, and certificates under a Velyrian external charter.

The Shipwrights’ Guild governs Lyr’s yards, sets their internal labor codes, surveys completed vessels, and answers for every certificate issued in Lyr’s name. Its low-gravity works build couriers, cutters, ferries, and other small civilian craft valued for being dependable, repairable, and available in number. The guild’s authority applies within those yards. It does not govern shipwrights elsewhere in the Embrace.

No hull launches until a qualified yard surveyor has walked it end to end and called it sound. The surveyor, not a practitioner, signs the result and answers for it. The certificate carries resale value because the yard’s reputation remains attached to the vessel after delivery. That work runs through pressurized halls around the docks, rotating residential drums, and short shirtsleeve tubes. Visitors may enter an active yard only with sponsorship and a work clearance.

Velyr holds the external charter, guarantees contracts, controls licenses for military conversion, and represents Lyr beyond its docks. The guild may build and certify civilian craft, but it cannot lawfully turn one to military purpose without Velyrian consent. Lyr therefore supplies civilian traffic across the Embrace without becoming a naval power. The Shipwrights’ Guild emblem identifies the yards as an institution, not a sovereign realm.

The Twofold — Gloam

Abiders take the Gloam work that follows technical acceptance, preserving the ship, its record, and the yard’s obligations after launch. They do not survey a completed hull, sign its certificate, or replace the qualified surveyor who answers for soundness.
