The Record
Oranth’s Cup is the last ordinary place before the Deep. Cargo arriving from the Grasp is inspected, divided, and transferred to atmospheric craft; descent crews take final forecasts and corridor assignments before leaving the platform for Oranth’s upper bands.
Thirty-eight thousand permanent personnel operate pressure locks, cargo systems, crew quarters, forecast rooms, and transfer bays, while transient traffic can raise the population to ninety thousand. Occupied sections maintain 0.3 standard gravity and breathable air. The exterior, cargo interfaces, and atmospheric-craft bays remain exposed to vacuum, charged particles, and microgravity.
Kharad controls the Cup as infrastructure of the Deep. It assigns approaches, inspects vessels, and may deny a descent; Velyrian contractual access does not transfer command of the platform. The Cup’s power is procedural rather than sovereign. It can hold a cargo or close a corridor, but it cannot calm Oranth’s weather.
The platform is also the starting point of the Grasp’s most disputed descent death. A contracted Summoner departed on a forecast Seldran had called clear and did not return. The finding of weather has been reopened twice and upheld twice. Nothing in those rulings has made the event less argued.

Kharad staffs the platform, assigns descent corridors, conducts inspections, and issues or denies clearance. The platform has no sovereignty or territorial crest; its marks identify Kharadi Deep operations.

Oranth’s Cup is sealed against vacuum and Oranth’s charged-particle environment. Habitation and transfer sections maintain a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere and 0.3 standard gravity; the platform’s negligible natural mass does not produce that acceleration. Cargo locks and atmospheric-craft bays use independent pressure systems, and exterior work remains in microgravity.

Oranth’s Cup orbits the planet every 0.285 standard days, passing through starlight, shadow, and reflected glow in less than seven hours. Its exterior maintains a controlled twelve-hour attitude cycle, while inhabited sections follow Kharadi standard time. Neither cycle is the source of the maintained gravity inside occupied compartments.

The Twofold
Summoners and Descriers serve the descent operation: one reveals a viable corridor through the bands, the other reads conditions ordinary instruments may register too late. Their work is licensed by Kharad and does not supersede clearance. The unresolved death on Seldran’s clear forecast remains a dispute about judgment, evidence, and weather rather than proof of a new Twofold effect.

The Cup is not an ordinary destination. Vessels require Kharadi assignment to a transfer berth, submit cargo and vessels for inspection, and may proceed toward the Deep only on a current corridor clearance. Traffic not descending or supporting the operation is kept outside the transfer sequence; ignoring a hold order is treated as interference with the Deep.
