Overview
The Record
Emberfall yields valuable volatile compounds only when its cryovolcanic vents bring them within reach. The Grasp needs that material, but the moon offers no steady seam or permanent face to work. Every useful deposit arrives inside a brief eruption window and may vanish beneath fresh ice or broken ground before the next shift.
Its 6,500 workers live behind pressure walls away from the active vents and prepare machinery against tidal forecasts that promise likelihood, never certainty. When a window opens, crews move extractors, containers, and recovery vehicles into place at once, then withdraw before a plume shifts, a vent closes, or the surface gives way. Production is measured as much by safe retreat as by material recovered.
No single power governs Emberfall. Licensed operators hold claims recognized by the principal powers of the Grasp, and those claims authorize access to particular work without granting ownership of the moon. An operator may close its machinery and working corridor. It cannot convert a successful eruption season into permanent territory or command another licensed site.

- Heraldic Standing
- No Unified Mark
No single power governs Emberfall. Extraction rights are divided among licensed operators whose claims are recognized by the principal powers of the Grasp, though that recognition grants access to the vents rather than ownership of the moon.
Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter390 km
- Mass0.000003787 Earth masses
- Gravity0.01 g
Emberfall has no enduring atmosphere. Most of the time its surface lies exposed to vacuum, but cryovolcanic eruptions briefly cast water vapor, ammonia, methane, and fine ice grains above the active vents. These plumes can spread across hundreds of kilometers before freezing, falling back, or dispersing into space.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Oranth
- Orbital Order69
- Orbital Radius1,100,000 km
- Orbital Period4.304 days
- Rotation103.3 hours
- Inclination0.21 degrees
- Eccentricity0.018
Emberfall is tidally locked to Oranth, but its eccentric orbit continually changes the force exerted upon its interior. The resulting tidal stress drives its cryovolcanic activity. Forecasts can identify periods when eruptions are likely, though they cannot reliably predict which vents will open or how long they will remain accessible. Extraction schedules therefore follow the moon’s tidal cycle rather than any ordinary division of day and night.
Travel
Travel Notes
Arrive under clearance from the licensed operator controlling the assigned window, with a current tidal forecast and an approach corridor clear of active plumes. Vent movement, falling ice, and collapsing ground can cancel descent without notice. Visitors may not enter another operator’s claim or remain after the withdrawal order.
