Blackvein

Industrial or Resource · Carbonaceous Moon

A carbon-rich industrial body mined for graphite and refined materials used in hull plating, structural composites, and orbital construction throughout the system.

Overview

The Record

Blackvein supplies refined graphite, structural fibers, and composite feedstock for vessel hulls, pressure shells, orbital frames, and precision machinery. Its value lies not in loose carbon dust but in the strong, light materials produced from it, which support construction throughout the Grasp and Embrace.

The 14,000 residents move between mining galleries, processing chambers, and quarters through strict decontamination locks. Conductive carbon dust clings to suits and equipment, then seeks every seal and circuit during pressure cycling. Outside the beacons and work lamps, the surface is too dark to read reliably by eye. A shift begins by establishing where the ground is and ends by keeping its dust out of the inhabited sections.

Blackvein is a joint Kharadi and Othryni commercial holding. Leases divide workings and processing rights between their interests, while contracts govern disputes at each boundary. Neither power holds exclusive control, and no single local authority can redirect the whole output. Each operator may govern its own lease, but shared dependence on processing and export does not become sovereignty.

Blackvein is administered as a joint Kharadi and Othryni commercial holding. Extraction leases are divided between interests from both moons, and neither power may claim exclusive control over the settlement or its output. Disputes are settled through the contracts governing each working rather than by a single local authority.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter430 km
  • Mass0.000006931 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.01 g

Blackvein has no atmosphere, and its surface is blanketed in fine, electrically conductive carbon dust. The particles cling to suits, machinery, and extracted material, then work their way into seals and circuitry during pressure cycling. Mining galleries, processing chambers, and living quarters are therefore separated by strict decontamination locks, with no untreated equipment permitted inside the inhabited sections.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order46
  • Orbital Radius780,000 km
  • Orbital Period2.57 days
  • Rotation61.68 hours
  • Inclination0.14 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.006

Blackvein is tidally locked to Oranth, giving it a slow and predictable cycle of light and shadow. Its carbon-dark surface reflects very little of the light from Vya and Veo, leaving ridges, pits, and excavation cuts difficult to distinguish even during the illuminated phase. Mining crews therefore work by station time, while powerful lamps and navigation beacons define the active zones.

Travel

Travel Notes

Arrive with clearance from the leaseholder controlling the destination working and follow its beacon lane. The carbon-dark surface conceals terrain, while conductive dust threatens sensors, seals, and pressure locks. Visitors may not transfer between leases without separate permission or carry untreated exterior equipment into processing chambers or inhabited sections.
