Overview
The Record
Vigil turns faint movement in the outer dark into warnings the Far Reach can use. Long sensor trusses track distant vessels, transient bodies, unstable captures, and trajectories that may cross inhabited routes or convoy approaches.
Observation teams work overlapping watches, comparing new returns with Edrane’s archives and forwarding assessed tracks to ports and convoy authorities. The station does not merely detect an object; it must decide whether the observation is noise, ordinary traffic, or a danger worth changing a route for.
Edrane maintains Vigil as a chartered dependency and principal outer-warning station. The Edrani Outer Watch governs operations, controls docking, and issues official transmissions under an Edrani watch mark. Other powers receive warnings but do not acquire command of the instruments that produced them.
Vigil can see farther than it can act. Isolation, incomplete observations, and transmission delay limit every judgment, while defense and interception remain the work of forces elsewhere. Its value lies in buying them time.

Vigil is a chartered dependency maintained and governed by Edrane as the principal early-warning station for the outer approaches. The Edrani Outer Watch controls operations and access, and Edrane represents the station externally and provides its defense. Vigil issues warnings within that mandate but has no independent foreign authority.
An Edrani watch mark authenticates official transmissions. It is an institutional emblem; Vigil has no independent crest.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter18 km
- Mass0.000000000002 Earth masses
- Gravity0.16 g
Vigil’s sensor trusses, radiators, and exterior observation systems operate in vacuum around a pressurized inhabited core. Shielded power sections and independently sealable modules limit damage from radiation, debris, or equipment failure. Any exterior work requires vacuum protection and clearance to avoid contaminating active observations.

Vigil completes a twenty-eight-standard-hour attitude cycle for sensor coverage and thermal balance; this is station orientation, not an orbital day. Overlapping watches maintain continuous observation while instruments rotate through assigned fields. There is no operational night, though exterior glare and thermal conditions change with the station’s attitude.
Culture
The Twofold
Dawn practitioners help turn incomplete observations into warnings that other stations can understand, especially when a track is faint or changing. Gloam specialists examine signals that may have been deliberately concealed. Their readings inform an assessment but do not replace instrument records, archived comparisons, or watch authorization.
Travel
Travel Notes
Vigil is operationally restricted. Docking requires prior Edrani authorization except during a declared emergency, and is limited to supply, maintenance, diplomatic, and watch traffic. Approach on the assigned vector with active emissions reduced; an unrecognized vessel that interferes with observation will be denied docking and reported as an unresolved track.
