Overview
The Record
Cities, roads, shelters, and defensive works cover Mourn in the remains of a civilization absent from recognized history. Damage patterns across widely separated sites indicate organized and widespread conflict rather than abandonment or gradual decline. Ancient devices survive among the ruins, but no living population has been found.
The structures predate reliable Far Reach records. No present people has demonstrated descent from their builders, and the surviving evidence has not identified the combatants, their weapons, or the cause of the war. Researchers have proposed connections to other ancient disasters, but nothing found on Mourn establishes a link to Kalemdil, the Shattering, or the creation of the Binding.
Edrane and Koravel recognize protected archaeological zones without claiming sovereignty. Their restrictions preserve remains, records, weapons, and devices in place while visiting expeditions document them. Mourn’s value is evidence, not salvage. Every artifact removed without context destroys part of the history visitors came to recover.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter1,460 km
- Mass0.00087303 Earth masses
- Gravity0.07 g
Mourn retains a thin, cold atmosphere of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and dust. It is not breathable, but weak winds still move grit through streets and exposed interiors, abrading surfaces and burying small remains. Expeditions require pressure protection and must plan for cold, dust intrusion, and unstable structures rather than for complete vacuum.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Oranth
- Orbital Order785
- Orbital Radius13,420,000 km
- Orbital Period183.387 days
- Rotation32.5 hours
- Inclination162.4 degrees
- Eccentricity0.032
Mourn rotates once every 32.5 standard hours and completes its distant retrograde orbit around Oranth in 183.387 standard days. Dust and weak starlight stretch dawn and dusk into muted intervals across the ruins. Survey schedules use the rotation for surface work and the long orbit chiefly for approach planning and seasonal thermal conditions.
Culture
The Twofold
Modern interpreters associate Mourn with Gloam because its inhabitants and history are lost, but that association identifies no cause. No evidence establishes that the Twofold destroyed the civilization or preserved the ruins. Practitioners and archaeologists therefore treat cultural interpretation and physical evidence as separate records.
Travel
Travel Notes
Archaeological access is restricted to approved landing corridors and protected ruin zones. Expeditions must carry pressure protection, cold-weather equipment, and dust controls, and may not remove remains, weapons, records, or devices. Edrani and Koravelan recognition supports the restrictions, but neither power grants a sovereign entry visa for Mourn.
