Saltrock

Industrial or Resource · Icy-Rocky Moon

A nearly airless Far Reach mine supplying salts, industrial chemicals, and preserved water through Edrane-coordinated trade.

Overview

The Record

Saltrock supplies materials the Far Reach cannot afford to import from across the Shatter: salts, industrial chemicals, and pockets of preserved water. Independent operators work thermal cuts through the icy-rocky body and send most output through Edrane-coordinated trade.

The 23,000 workers live in sealed camps and processing spaces below the surface. Active cuts release temporary water vapor and chemical aerosols into the surrounding vacuum, so extraction, processing, and loading remain separated even when convoy schedules press them together.

No operator governs Saltrock as territory. Each controls its own works under the larger supply arrangements coordinated through Edrane. The body matters because its unremarkable products keep distant settlements functioning; its limitation is the same remoteness that creates the demand, since delayed transport can leave useful stock underground while consumers wait elsewhere.

Independent operators control their own extraction works on Saltrock and trade primarily through Edrane’s outer-system network. Edrane coordinates routes and external supply priorities without turning the operators into a territorial government. Saltrock has no civic authority or unified mark.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter440 km
  • Mass0.000006202 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.01 g

Saltrock is nearly airless. Active thermal cuts produce temporary clouds of water vapor and chemical aerosols, while all inhabited and processing spaces remain sealed. Exterior crews require full pressure protection and current cut-status data before crossing an active district.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order828
  • Orbital Radius15,050,000 km
  • Orbital Period217.793 days
  • Rotation39.5 hours
  • Inclination172.3 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.033

Saltrock follows a nearly reversed orbit and rotates every 39.5 standard hours. Exterior light affects thermal cuts and surface handling, but sealed camps use Edrani convoy time so extraction, processing, and loading remain aligned with the ships that carry the output.

Travel

Travel Notes

Use the operator and loading point named in the Edrane-coordinated manifest. Active thermal cuts can release water vapor, chemical aerosols, and debris across a local approach, so current clearance is required even though Saltrock is nearly airless. Passenger facilities are limited to sealed industrial camps.
