Glass

Industrial or Resource · Rocky Fragment

A silica-rich body transformed by ancient impact, now mined for bulk glass, ceramic feedstock, and heat-resistant industrial material.

Overview

The Record

Glass supplies bulk glass, ceramic feedstock, insulation, and heat-resistant material from plains fused by ancient impact. Saphra’s optical crystals serve precision work; Glass serves everything that requires reliable material in enormous quantity. Its value is not rarity. It is the ability to keep common industrial production from waiting on celebrated stone.

The 7,200 workers live in sealed industrial shelters beside cuts opened through fused silica and broken glassy ground. Crews work by marked lanes and shielded instruments because glare can erase surface detail while abrasive dust attacks suits, seals, and machinery. Extraction, crushing, and loading remain separated so dust brought from a working face does not pass unchecked into inhabited rooms or finished stock.

An independent commercial concession controls extraction and local operations. It may assign active cuts, enforce industrial safety, and hold material awaiting shipment. Its authority ends with the work. The concession possesses no wider claim over the fragment, cannot turn access into sovereignty, and cannot use the system’s dependence on bulk output to bind any power beyond its contracts.

Glass is worked under an independent commercial concession. The concession governs extraction and local operations, but holds no wider sovereign claim over the fragment.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter240 km
  • Mass0.000001329 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.01 g

Glass is airless. Its surface is covered in abrasive, electrically charged silica dust and broken expanses of impact-fused stone sharp enough to damage suits, seals, and machinery. Reflected light from the glassy terrain can overwhelm unshielded vision and sensors, making exterior work dangerous even when the ground appears clear.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order677
  • Orbital Radius10,250,000 km
  • Orbital Period122.412 days
  • Rotation7.6 hours
  • Inclination6.2 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.057

Glass is not tidally locked and completes one rotation every 7.6 standard hours. As its fused plains turn through the light of Vya and Veo, broad sections of the surface flare against the surrounding darkness before falling rapidly back into shadow. Mining shifts are timed around those periods of glare and the repeated heating and cooling of exposed equipment.

Travel

Travel Notes

Use the concession clearance and approach lane assigned to the receiving cut. Reflected glare can overwhelm unshielded sensors, while abrasive silica dust and broken fused ground threaten seals and landing gear. Visitors may not leave marked routes, approach an active face, or remove glass or ceramic feedstock outside the declared cargo transfer.
