Ashen Tor

Industrial or Resource · Irregular Moon

An independent mining camp built within the ruins of an older settlement abandoned when Ashen Tor’s orbit became dangerously unstable.

Overview

The Record

Ashen Tor sends mined material from active cuts into Shatter trade without requiring any moon to assume the cost of governing the camp. The present works occupy the ruins of an older settlement whose structures predate the Shattering and whose abandonment followed orbital danger rather than Kalemdil’s destruction.

Its 11,000 residents live in restored pressure galleries among chambers still open to vacuum. Mining crews share the old settlement with smugglers, unlicensed brokers, fugitives, and others seeking distance from established courts. Impact tracking determines when exterior work and resupply may continue, while the inhabited galleries depend on common docks and life-support systems no resident can ignore.

A loose compact of independent crews maintains those necessities and protects the active workings. It claims no moon-wide sovereignty, commands no authority beyond the camp, and has never turned refuge into a formal purpose. Ashen Tor endures because its residents enforce enough order to keep air, docking, and extraction possible without giving any outside power a reason to arrive.

Heraldic Standing
No Unified Mark

Ashen Tor is maintained by a loose compact of independent mining crews and small extraction concerns. No moon claims sovereignty over it or appears willing to assume the cost and responsibility of doing so. The camp enforces only those rules necessary to protect its docks, life-support systems, and active workings. Without ever being founded as a refuge, it has become one for smugglers, unlicensed brokers, fugitives, and others who prefer to conduct business beyond the reach of established courts.

Physical Characteristics

Ground and Sky

  • Diameter370 km
  • Mass0.000006494 Earth masses
  • Gravity0.01 g

Ashen Tor has no atmosphere. The present camp survives within the abandoned settlement’s restored pressure galleries, where old chambers have been resealed and returned to use. Beyond them, collapsed structures and failed habitation modules remain open to the vacuum.

Orbit and Time

Path Around Oranth

  • Orbital Order635
  • Orbital Radius9,200,000 km
  • Orbital Period104.093 days
  • Rotation17.3 hours
  • Inclination5.4 degrees
  • Eccentricity0.046

Ashen Tor completes one rotation every 17.3 hours. Nearby debris follows less predictable paths, casting irregular shadows across the surface and occasionally passing close enough to threaten exposed equipment. Exterior work zones are closed whenever tracking stations identify an elevated risk of impact.

Travel

Travel Notes

Obtain dock clearance from the crews maintaining the camp and follow current tracking instructions through the surrounding debris. Impact warnings close exterior approaches without negotiation. Visitors may enter the restored galleries assigned to them, but refuge does not grant access to active workings, life-support controls, or another crew’s stores.
