Overview
The Record
Skarn Hollow is a mine made into a vertical city over generations. Workshops, markets, homes, processing works, communal heat stations, and remembrance chambers occupy shelves cut down the walls of an immense iron-black basin. Enclosed freight rails cross the open depth, and heavy elevators continue from the inhabited galleries into shafts below the visible floor.
The Hollow extracts and prepares much of the iron and dense mineral wealth Mordane owes to Kharad. Cargo rises to protected rim yards and launch facilities; crews, equipment, and heat descend. The same systems support hereditary working communities whose safety councils, labor stewards, customs, and records of the dead make the excavation more than an estate’s industrial asset.
Mining houses retain separate claims, while engineers and transport authorities coordinate the machinery shared across them. Cairn Voss and Kharad enforce quotas and intermoon agreements, creating persistent tension without making Skarn openly rebellious. Its people remain Mordani, even when their metal and crews enter Kharadi foundries and Deep-support works. The Deep itself remains within Oranth’s atmosphere; Skarn Hollow supplies the industrial order that reaches it.

Environment
Successive shelves descend through a vast basin of iron-black rock. Homes, markets, workshops, processing works, remembrance chambers, and communal heat stations connect by suspended bridges, enclosed freight rails, elevators, and shafts continuing below the visible floor. Snow covers the rim while industrial heat gathers in the inhabited depths.

Travel Notes
Cargo uses protected launch facilities and yards at the rim. Visitors descend by authorized freight lifts or enclosed transit, avoiding cold thin air, mineral dust, moving machinery, and open industrial hazards. Surveying or entering an active estate claim without permission is treated as attempted theft.
