Devotional college
The Skyreaders
The observatories of Rethis
Rethis’s observatory colleges, treating tested publication as devotion while issuing the forecasts that open, delay, or close access to the Deep.
The Skyreaders are the observatory colleges of Rethis, where measuring Oranth is treated as devotional work. Their central rule is that observations must be tested and published. The colleges claim four centuries without exception, a claim that is nearly true. A forecast is not private property, and an observer who withholds one for advantage loses standing.
Publication is also Rethis’s practical leverage. Kharad funds and protects much of the network because storms, radiation, and magnetic sheets can close a Deep descent as completely as a denied permit. A Rethin warning may delay or close a corridor. It cannot open one, issue a permit, or replace Kharadi command of the descent.
Descriers create the exception. The colleges retain them because a practitioner may perceive a magnetic sheet an hour before the towers confirm it. That warning can reach a convoy before it enters the published record, leaving an operational decision based on information not yet open or independently testable. Rethis acknowledges the arrangement but does not print the preliminary reading as an ordinary forecast.
The colleges have debated the conflict for generations and continue to hold that saving a convoy outweighs keeping publication absolute. They do not treat the resulting unease as solved. The same dispute shadows their relationship with the Faithful, who turn privileged knowledge toward obstructing the Deep. The Skyreaders distinguish an early warning used to preserve a convoy from information withheld to stop one, while recognizing that the distinction rests on purpose and consequence rather than equal publication.
The Twofold — Dawn
Revelation is owed to everyone. Tested forecasts must be published, while an early warning may be acted upon before the instruments can support ordinary publication.
