The Faithful

Proscribed at Dhorak and at Vhalessa

Proscribed Rethin apostates who hold the Deep to be a wound in the living Sky Father and obstruct the descents that their moon’s forecasts enable.

The Faithful are Rethin apostates who hold Oranth to be a living Sky Father and the Deep to be an open wound cut for the foundries of the Grasp. To them, extraction is not an industry conducted inside a planet but an injury sustained without pause. Dhorak and Vhalessa proscribe the devotion because its adherents act against the descent rather than keeping the belief private.

Rethis gave the doctrine its setting. Kharad funds the observatories whose forecasts decide when a corridor can open, and Rethin instruments make the extraction possible by warning crews when Oranth’s weather will permit it. The Faithful answer that the moon’s greatest scientific service became the road to the harm. Four centuries of open publication leave the observatory colleges unable to deny their operational role, even while they reject the conclusion drawn from it.

The movement has little material capacity. It holds no yard, patron, or useful fleet. Its demonstrated methods are sabotage against equipment that is costly to replace and slow to certify, joined to information from observers who may know a descent window before the assigned crews. Hiring boards at Dhorak now prefer established teams over unfamiliar ability because trust itself has become part of corridor readiness.

The Faithful avoid marked passages. An early attack there brought a Warden response extending far beyond those responsible, and no comparable attempt has been recorded for generations. They instead work against Deep-bound traffic outside the marked lanes, beyond Warden jurisdiction. Roughly six deaths, including lost Summoners on descents forecast as clear, have been attributed to the movement across as many generations. None has been proved. Weather and murder remain competing accounts, and the Faithful offer no answer.

The leader is called the Observer, a title common enough on Rethis to have defeated three inquiries. Kharad has pursued the movement for a century without ending it. The compact at the Sentinel gives Dhorak operational command while the Deep is threatened, expanding Kharad’s response without establishing who belongs to the Faithful or how many adherents remain at the instruments.

The Twofold — Gloam

The Faithful invert Rethis’s Dawn obligation to publish. They conceal, withhold, and destroy because they hold that the Sky Father is owed the privacy the observatories deny him.
