Tareth

City

Namar receives the wider system at Tareth, a neutral metropolis spanning an inhabited canyon without claiming rule over the moon’s divided dynasties.

Overview

The Record

Tareth spans an immense inhabited canyon. Ports and exposed stone districts occupy both rims; bridges and transit spans cross the gulf; lifts descend through terraced neighborhoods toward shaded waterways and protected cultivation below. Moving across the metropolis means changing elevation as often as direction, and the machinery joining rim to canyon floor is part of ordinary civic life.

The city exists because Namar’s divided powers require a place none of them owns. Ceremonial dynasties and foreign governments keep delegations here under neutrality agreements, while metropolitan councils administer the city itself. The Voice of Namar is seated at Tareth, but the office speaks for the moon only through the collective assent of the old courts. Tareth hosts common diplomacy; it does not make Namar a unified state.

For most arrivals from another moon, Tareth is the first ground underfoot. Its rim ports pass travelers and cargo into canyon transit, and its markets handle water rights, astronomical data, manufactured goods, and traffic moving between Oranth and the wider Embrace. Yet arrival in the city grants no command over the roads and reservoirs beyond it. Tareth connects Namar’s powers without absorbing them.

Identity and Function

Function

Tareth joins Namar’s busiest surface arrival facilities to canyon transit, foreign embassies, commercial markets, and the limited common machinery of Namari diplomacy.

Identity and Function

Governance

Metropolitan civic councils govern Tareth under neutrality agreements recognized by Namar’s ceremonial dynasties. Dynastic and foreign delegations may influence the city but do not rule it. The Voice seated here speaks externally for Namar only while the old courts sustain the collective confirmation that placed the officer in office.

Environment and Travel

Environment

The city occupies both rims and the terraced walls of an immense canyon. Exposed upper districts endure mineral dust, heat, and abrupt temperature changes; lifts and spans descend toward shaded waterways, protected cultivation, and the steadier climate below.

Travel Notes

Established descent corridors lead to the canyon-rim ports, where passengers and cargo transfer to bridges, lifts, and protected routes into the lower city or onward through Namar. The ports are an arrival point, not authority to cross roads or reach reservoirs held elsewhere.

Culture

The Twofold

Both aspects are practiced openly. Assayers retained in the diplomatic quarter test the good faith of claims made by guests whom the city does not govern, while Descriers work beside ordinary inspectors at the canyon-rim ports. Dawn traditions attach to civic order, public illumination, and endurance. Gloam practitioners keep concealed service routes and canyon passages, but the families controlling those routes lease their use rather than surrendering them to the city.
