The Record

Lathren Conservatory keeps Sorell’s most exacting medicinal species alive beneath glass. Its linked vaults cross several low hills, each chamber licensed for particular plants, compounds, or treatments and held to its own balance of water, circulation, pressure, and temperature. Growers move between cultivation and research halls; samples move under seal; a failure in the managed environment can end work that cannot simply be replanted outdoors.

The Conservatory develops biological compounds, teaches specialist cultivation, and trains many of the Menders Sorell sends into the Embrace. Its central dedication garden holds plants tended in the names of recovered patients, making the connection between crop and care visible while leaving treatment in the hands of physicians.

Sorell’s own growers, physicians, and botanical custodians decide what Lathren cultivates and who may enter its sensitive chambers. Ilyran institutions certify agreed safeguards, exchange medical knowledge, and protect the research abroad. That support gives the Conservatory reach; it does not give Ilyra ownership of the glass or the planting lists beneath it.

Ilyran institutions certify shared safety procedures, support knowledge exchange, and represent protected work in external agreements; protectorate authority does not make the Conservatory an Ilyran possession.

Lathren has no general public landing. Researchers and medical couriers ordinarily clear biological inspection at Pellen before transferring to the Conservatory, where people, tools, containers, and samples are screened again. Admission to the grounds does not grant entry to a sensitive chamber; that requires the relevant research or cultivation permit.

The Twofold

Lathren treats Dawn as sustained care rather than sudden intervention. Menders train beside the physicians who prepare treatments, and Quickeners tend species whose survival depends on conditions maintained without interruption. In the dedication garden, a plant kept in a recovered patient’s name marks the bond between cultivation and healing without claiming that observance replaced medicine.
