Overview
The Record
Elyndra studies whether an old civilization can repair what it once consumed. Its highlands were stripped and reorganized during earlier Velyrian expansion, then rebuilt across generations through restored forests, waterways, cultivated slopes, and terraced gardens. The resulting country appears ancient because the work was designed to become living landscape rather than remain a visible project. Restoration law now restricts further expansion, even where old estates retain historical privileges.
Observatory domes, academies, religious retreats, and estate compounds occupy the misted heights among waterfalls and cultivated forests. The Collegium keeps observational houses here, where instruments record eclipses and the long transitions of Velyr’s day. Elyndra does not compete with Namar’s navigational and star-charting tradition. It studies time, ritual cycles, perception, and the social consequences of moving between illumination and shadow.
A compact civic government works alongside academic, religious, and restoration institutions without dissolving their older rights. Access remains unequal: the highlands may be presented as a common proof of repair while selective academies and private estates control much of what visitors can enter. Rail and air traffic is reduced during major observances and predictable eclipses, when ceremonial districts close to ordinary passage.
Reclaimers hold unusual standing here because their work is treated as a lifetime vocation rather than a contracted remedy. The academies make a more disputed claim: that they have trained Seers. Thessane repeats the assertion chiefly to reject it, and few traditions elsewhere recognize the classification. From Elyndra’s highest terraces, the metropolitan valleys remain visible below. Retreat, restoration, and disagreement all remain within sight of the civilization that produced them.

Misted temperate highlands surround observatory domes, academies, retreats, old estates, cultivated forests, waterfalls, and terraced gardens. Much of the landscape appears ancient but was reconstructed over generations after earlier Velyrian expansion stripped and reorganized it. The lights of the metropolitan valleys remain visible from the highest terraces.
