Overview
The Record
Vorun marks the point where familiar routes give way to the outer system. The cold gas giant turns beneath subdued bands of gray, cream, bronze, and storm-dark blue, smaller than Oranth but still vast enough to dominate any approach.
Its rings extend far beyond the cloud tops in bright ice, silicate dust, and darker mineral fragments. Their scale makes Vorun immediately recognizable; their moving debris and the planet’s radiation belts make recognition safer than proximity.
Survey and observation vessels use calculated high-latitude routes above or below the main ring plane, crossing it only through monitored gaps. No ordinary vessel can work deep in the atmosphere, and no permanent authority controls the approaches. Nearby powers share practical route information because a safe corridor benefits every traveler without granting ownership to any of them.
The title Ringed Warden belongs to what Vorun appears to do from Oranth: stand between the inhabited system and the distant orbit of Nhalis. It is a boundary in navigation and imagination, not a sentinel with a confirmed purpose.
Political Relationships
Standing
Standing at a Glance
- Civilization Status
- Uninhabited
- Heraldic Standing
- No Unified Mark
Vorun is unclaimed. No Oranthian realm governs the planet, its rings, or the surrounding routes. Powers operating nearby exchange debris observations and recognize practical approach corridors, but those agreements coordinate safety rather than establish territorial authority. Vorun has no crest or institutional mark.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter112,000 km
- Mass120 Earth masses
- Gravity1.55 g
Vorun has no solid accessible surface. Hydrogen and helium dominate its deep atmosphere, with methane, ammonia, water vapor, and layered storms visible above increasing pressure and temperature. Radiation belts and the surrounding ice, silicate dust, and darker ring fragments make the space around the cloud tops hazardous as well.
Culture
The Twofold
Traditions across the outer system use Vorun’s rings as symbols of guardianship, restraint, and limits that should not be crossed. This is cultural interpretation rather than observed affinity: no verified Twofold effect has been detected in the rings, storms, or radiation belts.
Travel
Travel Notes
Cross the ring plane only through a surveyed gap and on a current debris solution. Radiation exposure, moving fragments, and storm-driven magnetic conditions can close an approach without warning. Ordinary vessels remain outside the deep atmosphere and use high-latitude observation routes above or below the main rings.
