Overview
The Record
Nhalis is the fifth and most distant recognized planet orbiting Vya and Veo. From Oranth it is usually a faint blue point, and for long intervals only specialized instruments separate it from the outer dark. Its 2,193.81-standard-day orbit carries it through a year longer than many institutions remain under one administration.
There is no accessible solid surface. Hydrogen, helium, and methane color the upper atmosphere blue-gray above denser volatile layers and a compact interior. Fast currents carry pale high clouds around the planet, while dark vortices may survive for years. The planet rotates in 17.8 standard hours, giving its weather rapid motion beneath greatly diminished starlight.
No permanent settlement is known around Nhalis. Scientific expeditions must operate without timely rescue or resupply, and the cost of reaching the planet limits both their number and their duration. The Exile yields observations of the system’s outer environment, but it grants no nearby port from which that knowledge can be gathered safely.
Several Oranthian traditions associate Nhalis with endurance, separation, and Gloam. Those meanings arise from distance, not from any verified Twofold phenomenon. No established power can turn observation into territorial control at this range.

Standing
Standing at a Glance
- Civilization Status
- Uninhabited
Nhalis is unclaimed and lies beyond the practical territorial reach of Oranth’s established powers. Scientific presence is temporary, creates no sovereignty, and is not represented by a planetary crest or government.

Physical Characteristics
Ground and Sky
- Diameter49,000 km
- Mass17 Earth masses
- Gravity1.15 g
Nhalis has no accessible solid surface. Its upper atmosphere is primarily hydrogen, helium, and methane above dense layers of heavier volatile compounds surrounding a compact interior. Pale high clouds and long-lived dark vortices move through the blue-gray atmosphere; descent trades wind and cold for rapidly increasing pressure with no surface on which to land.
Orbit and Time
Path Around Vya & Veo
- Orbital Order50
- Orbital Radius610,000,000 km
- Orbital Period2,193.81 days
- Rotation17.8 hours
- Inclination6.7 degrees
- Eccentricity0.083
Nhalis rotates once every 17.8 standard hours while taking 2,193.81 standard days to orbit Vya and Veo. The fast rotation drives atmospheric circulation, but the distant paired stars provide little light or warmth; through the upper clouds they are often difficult to distinguish as separate sources. Expedition clocks therefore follow vessel time rather than atmospheric day or the six-standard-year orbit.
Culture
The Twofold
Nhalis is associated in several cultures with isolation, endurance, and Gloam because it lies beyond ordinary reach. No verified Twofold phenomenon has been documented there, and the cultural reading is not evidence about the planet’s weather, interior, or origin.
Travel
Travel Notes
A Nhalis expedition requires a long-duration vessel, independent navigation and repair capability, extensive reserves, and a mission plan that assumes no timely rescue from Oranth. There is no permanent port or resupply station. Operations remain in orbit or the upper atmosphere; the planet offers no solid landing surface.
