Overview
The Record
Nareth Deep inhabits the submerged wall of one of Caelor’s shallow continental seas. Its oldest halls are cut into reef stone; later districts cross ravines on pressure-sealed bridges and extend onto cultivated marine terraces. Vertical shafts reach small stations at the surface, but the city’s ordinary routes run through enclosed halls under water, with every crossing dependent on seals, structure, and maintained light.
The city cultivates marine food and medicines, treats injuries and unfamiliar biological exposures, maps currents, studies deep-water conditions, and trains navigators for routes beneath Caelor’s storms. Those functions cannot be directed casually from a distant harbor. Nareth’s civic council works alongside the institutions that keep its structures, terraces, and routes alive, giving the city considerable autonomy without granting it authority over the surface kingdoms.
Surface visitors often describe Nareth as a city in perpetual night. Its inhabitants reject the premise. Darkness is the sea’s natural state; illumination is a managed condition within it. That distinction shapes the city’s Twofold practice and its daily discipline alike: endurance belongs beyond the inhabited halls, while healing, cultivation, inspection, and repair keep those halls fit to return to.

Environment
Pressure-sealed halls, gardens, repositories, and civic rooms are carved into a submerged reef wall. Enclosed bridges cross ravines to later districts and cultivated marine terraces, while vertical shafts rise to small surface stations. Outside the inhabited light lie cold water, depth, current, and the continuous load borne by every seal.

Travel Notes
Atmospheric arrivals first transfer through a recognized Caeloran port. From there, visitors descend by sealed marine transport or through designated surface towers and vertical shafts. Severe storms can close the surface connection, while structural maintenance can isolate an underwater route or district without closing the whole city.
