The Golden March

Cultural Site

The Golden March is Rhovan’s shifting migration circuit, carrying herds, households, mobile courts, and seasonal realms across the steppe.

Overview

The Record

The Golden March is the route by which Rhovan moves its realms. Herds, workshops, households, riders, and mobile courts travel together between grazing grounds and river crossings, carrying government and livelihood in the same columns. At the height of migration, temporary encampments link across the steppe and the moon’s civilization is most legible not in its permanent cities but in the country passing between them.

No road marks the circuit from end to end. Flooded rivers, burned grass, storms, and spent pasture push each season’s passage away from the last. Summoners recover crossings or reveal a safe line through altered ground, but they do not decide who may use it. The house holding that seasonal territory controls entry, and an introduction to one house carries no promise at the next boundary.

This is why no house owns the March. Each can close or defend the ground it presently holds, yet customary passage keeps the complete circuit beyond permanent claim. The March is at once grazing system, trade route, and political territory, but none of those remains fixed long enough to be governed from a single hall.

Identity and Function

Function

The March joins grazing grounds, river crossings, trade routes, and temporary seats of rule into the moving territory on which traditional Rhovani life depends.

Identity and Function

Governance

No authority governs the whole March. Houses hold and defend seasonal stretches, negotiate passage, and move their boundaries with grazing and weather, while custom prevents any one of them from owning the complete circuit. Authority on the route belongs to the house whose ground a traveler is actually crossing.

Environment and Travel

Environment

The circuit passes through open grassland, river approaches, storm tracks, burned plains, and grazing country marked by temporary encampments rather than a permanent road. Flood, fire, wind, and exhausted pasture continually alter its usable course.

Travel Notes

A map records where the March ran, not where it will run. Travelers need current route knowledge and, in practice, an introduction to the house controlling the next seasonal territory; otherwise a known crossing may be flooded, closed, burned out, or inside ground they have no right to enter.

Culture

The Twofold

Summoners recover crossings and safe lines obscured by flood, storm, fire, or migration. Kindlers accompany the moving columns because keeping a fire in the open steppe wind is practical work before it is ceremony. Dawn belongs to witnessed movement beneath the open sky, while Gloam practitioners protect night travel, scouts, and concealed approaches.
