Ashkar Deep

Mine

A multigenerational subterranean city that extracts Othryn’s valuable minerals while keeping ownership, routes, and working maps under royal authority.

Overview

The Record

Ashkar Deep is a mining network that became a city. Excavation faces, suspended railways, ore lifts, workshops, reservoirs, clinics, residences, and sealed gardens descend through successive levels of folded stone. Generations have lived below the surface, and the deepest communities often reach neighboring tunnel settlements more directly than any city under the open sky.

The network extracts some of Othryn’s most valuable minerals and metals. Ore moves upward through controlled loading facilities under royal license, with Kharad as the largest buyer. Those contracts grant material, schedules, and access to designated transfer points; they do not grant ownership of a mine, a route, or the ground around either. Ashkar exists within the kingdom House Skarn built to prevent foreign contracts from acquiring Othryni holdings one agreement at a time.

Route knowledge is therefore both safety system and political boundary. Keepers record productive seams, unstable chambers, concealed passages, and galleries sealed by their predecessors, then lodge the authoritative maps at Dorrath. They may close a route for excavation, pressure failure, flooding, structural danger, or local dispute, and no buyer’s schedule compels them to reopen it. Ashkar’s mineral wealth depends on reaching deep ground; its autonomy depends on ensuring that access to the ore never becomes control of the Deep.

Identity and Function

Function

Ashkar Deep extracts rare minerals and metals through a descending network of excavation faces, railways, ore lifts, and loading platforms. Reservoirs, sealed gardens, clinics, workshops, residences, and communal facilities allow crews and their families to remain underground across generations rather than commute from a surface hold.

Identity and Function

Governance

Deep-community authorities, mining administrators, and civic institutions manage Ashkar, but each is confirmed at Dorrath Hold. Route keepers serve under royal commissions, lodge their authoritative maps with the crown, and decide which controlled passages open for local use. Exports leave under royal license; neither a mining house nor a foreign buyer may turn a supply contract into independent authority over the workings.

Environment and Travel

Environment

Ashkar descends through folded stone in successive inhabited and industrial levels. Suspended railways and ore lifts connect excavation faces, workshops, loading platforms, residential vaults, reservoirs, clinics, and sealed gardens. Conditions vary by gallery: pressure, water, structural stability, dust, and active cutting determine whether a route remains part of the inhabited network or is sealed.

Travel Notes

Enter Ashkar through an assigned subterranean railway, cargo lift, or controlled tunnel route after clearance from the receiving authority. Follow route-keeper instructions at every junction. Excavation, unstable stone, atmosphere loss, flooding, local disputes, or a sealed working can close a section without an alternate public path; a royal export license does not grant access to mine maps or restricted galleries.

Culture

The Twofold

Abiders accompany long shifts and sustain the deep communities through darkness, isolation, and dangerous work. Sexton route keepers preserve the record of sealed galleries and disclose it to the crown’s surveyor, not to buyers. Descriers read stone before a cut, while Summoners are called when crews must reach a seam through ground no survey has crossed. Dawn practice also supports rescue, engineering, and stabilization, but it does not override a Gloam office’s duty to keep a dangerous or proprietary route closed.
