Overview
The Record
Crownfield is a livestock plain that becomes a city only for as long as the work requires one. Managed grazing districts, shelter belts, water channels, and agricultural roads divide immense gold-green fields among regional jurisdictions and landholding estates. Permanent settlements remain at the margins. During the largest markets and harvest gatherings, temporary halls, judging grounds, enclosures, transit areas, and lodging spread across the central country.
Animals, freight, and passengers enter on separate controlled routes. Breeding stock is compared, livestock is judged and treated, contracts are concluded, and agricultural competitions bring estates that otherwise govern their own ground into one temporary civic order. Market councils coordinate trade, judging, movement, and public gatherings for the season. They do not govern the whole plain once the halls empty.
The gathering calendar follows the Crown Nights, the brief eclipses when Aurel passes through Oranth’s shadow and daylight gives way for several hours. Aurel alone among the Great Moons keeps a day-and-night cycle in which Oranth visibly rises and sets, and Crownfield ties livestock markets, contracts, competitions, and ceremonies to the eclipses that interrupt it. Quickeners work openly at the judging grounds; Gloam practitioners handle night husbandry, security, preservation, and herd movement. Even estates indifferent to formal practice stop and observe. The plain’s commercial and ceremonial lives are therefore the same event: dispersed agricultural power made briefly visible in the shadow of the world it orbits.
Identity and Function
Function
Crownfield breeds and raises livestock across managed grazing districts, then concentrates animals, buyers, judges, and agricultural labor for seasonal markets, competitions, harvest gatherings, and Crown Night ceremonies. Its temporary facilities let dispersed estates conduct trade and public business at a scale none maintains year-round.
Identity and Function
Governance
Several regional jurisdictions and landholding estates divide the plain. Each retains authority over its own ground and herds. During peak seasons, temporary market councils coordinate trade, judging, transit, and public gatherings across those boundaries, but their authority ends with the event and does not constitute a permanent government for Crownfield.
Environment and Travel
Environment
Gold-green grazing districts extend between shelter belts, water channels, and agricultural roads. Permanent settlements remain dispersed around the margins. At market season, temporary halls, judging grounds, livestock enclosures, transit areas, and lodging spread across the central fields, then recede when the gathering ends.

Travel Notes
Approach by the controlled agricultural routes assigned to passenger, livestock, and freight traffic; the flows remain separate as they enter the market grounds. During major gatherings, use the temporary transit districts and lodging areas established around the central fields. Outside those seasons, Crownfield is dispersed working land rather than a continuously serviced urban destination.
