Gloam — conceals
Sealer
Intent held unreadable
A rare Gloam practitioner who keeps intent unreadable to an Assayer, protecting refusal and secrecy without making a false statement appear true.
rareRarity, not rank. A practitioner is one thing for life.
A Sealer holds intent unreadable and keeps a secret against an Assayer’s examination. The practitioner protects a person’s refusal to disclose; the work does not supply a false intention for the Assayer to report. Negotiations that admit both roles therefore preserve a question and the right to withhold its answer in the same room.
The name extends an older vocabulary of sealed cargo, districts, passages, and Kharadi surface ports. Those seals control access to a thing or place. A Sealer applies the same principle to a person, closing another practitioner’s access without changing what the protected person said.
An Assayer facing a competent Sealer reports no reading rather than a lie. Experienced negotiators still treat that silence as information, since engaging protection for one meeting announces that the meeting contains something worth protecting. Velyr’s professional trade answers the problem with standing retainers that cover routine and consequential exchanges alike.
Those retainers are filed individually, even when the protected conversation never enters a record. The arrangement makes the service lawful and legible without giving the Sealed Tongue authority to act as a collective body. Several Sealers intentionally serving one combined purpose risk the same prohibition on concert that governs other practitioner combinations.
