Gloam — preserves
Cellarer
Stores that keep
A common Gloam practitioner associated with stores keeping, timber resisting rot, and seals holding beyond their expected season, indistinguishable from an ordinary cellarer.
commonRarity, not rank. A practitioner is one thing for life.
A Cellarer keeps material through the conditions that would ordinarily spoil it. Stores remain sound, timber resists rot, a seal holds beyond its expected season, and a cellar that should have turned does not. Velyr places the role at the common end of Gloam’s preserving braid because the work maintains an existing condition rather than renewing what has already failed.
Cellarer is also an ordinary trade. Tiravel’s growers, cellarers, and coopers use the word without claiming a place in Velyr’s catalogue. No accepted test separates a Gloam Cellarer from a competent worker using sound storage, patient inspection, and good fortune. The classification records an attributed practice, not proof that every lasting store was preserved by the Twofold.
That ambiguity is shared with the Kindler at the common end of Dawn. A fire kept through wet weather and grain kept through a difficult season can each be credited to a practitioner without excluding ordinary skill. The uncertainty limits what the catalogue can establish, even where employers continue to value the work.
