Overview
The Record
Gethran Cut keeps one of Damaris’s principal rim routes open where the habitable twilight narrows against a black mountain ridge. A natural cleft was widened across generations until enclosed roads, transit lines, habitation, and thermal machinery could be embedded within both canyon walls. Nearly every major convoy using this section of the rim must pass through it.
The two mouths face different hazards. Copper permanent daylight heats the dayward rock; ice fog and severe cold enter from the nightward side. Heat exchangers, buried conduits, protective barriers, and emergency systems keep the interior route within survivable limits. A Kindler is rostered at the cold mouth and a Cellarer at the hot one. The passage council will not open the road without both.
Gethran also trains rim navigators to recognize thermal drift before a convoy leaves the habitable seam. When conditions change, local engineers can halt movement, evacuate exposed sections, and move travelers into shelters designed to receive traffic displaced toward either extreme. Edrane may coordinate a convoy’s wider schedule and external protection. It does not decide that an unsafe passage is open.
The settlement’s authority is narrow and difficult to challenge because it rests on immediate consequence. The assembly at Ceryth governs the wider rim; Gethran governs whether this road can still be crossed. Its influence ends with the passage, but failure here would divide settlements that share no practical route around the ridge.

Environment
Gethran fills a widened cleft through a black mountain ridge where the twilight band constricts. Copper permanent daylight heats the dayward face while ice fog and severe cold enter the nightward mouth. Habitation, enclosed roads, transit lines, heat exchangers, barriers, and emergency systems are embedded into both canyon walls.

Travel Notes
Follow the enclosed road or transit line assigned through the cleft; this section offers no safe independent bypass along the rim. Severe thermal shifts can close the Cut with little notice. During closure, obey local evacuation routing and use the emergency shelters before drift carries you farther dayward or nightward. Passage resumes only when Gethran’s engineers clear it.
