The Departure
Silence and the Colony Left Behind
Silence holds an intact colony for roughly 180,000 people whose inhabitants disappeared without bodies, a final transmission, an evacuation roster, or an account.
Silence preserves the Departure through a colony built for roughly 180,000 people and occupied by none. Residences, workshops, public halls, and sealed agricultural chambers remain largely intact. Personal effects and working systems suggest an orderly but rapid departure rather than gradual decline. They do not show whether the inhabitants chose to leave, were compelled to move, or ever reached another destination. The event’s name describes an absence from the colony, not a proven act of willing evacuation.
No confirmed bodies have been found. No final transmission, evacuation roster, or surviving account identifies a last decision or destination. Automated lighting continues to follow the former civic day, brightening empty rooms according to an inherited schedule. Pressure systems still maintain parts of the settlement. Their operation can make a sealed district appear ready for return, but authorized teams have found no hidden or continuing population within it. A working room proves only that its machinery continued after its occupants were gone.
Every broad explanation remains open and unsupported. The colonists may have departed, died elsewhere, been removed, or met something absent from the surviving record. None of these possibilities has been established, and the apparent order of the colony does not rank one above another. Edrane coordinates investigations and issues warnings for the route to Silence without claiming the moon or authority to complete its history.
Investigators preserve every functioning system they can leave untouched. Any change may obscure the line between the colony as its inhabitants left it and evidence created by later visitors, so the original civic marks remain with the systems they once identified. Gloam language follows that restraint because the place holds ordinary life in view while concealing its end. No measured Twofold effect is accepted as a cause. The Departure remains an event known entirely by the ordered spaces and unanswered absences that followed it.
What It Left in Force
Silence remains unoccupied despite largely intact residences, workshops, halls, and agricultural chambers. Automated lighting follows the old civic day, and pressure systems maintain parts of the colony, but investigators have found no hidden or continuing population.
Edrane coordinates investigations and issues route warnings without claiming the moon. Every functioning system and original civic mark is preserved as evidence, since altering either could erase the distinction between what the colonists left and what later visitors caused.
The Twofold
Visitors associate the Departure with Gloam because Silence preserves ordinary life while withholding what ended it. That association governs memorial caution and survey practice. No measured Twofold effect has been accepted as the cause.
